Plud it gives the bagels their golden brown color. Eden is a great high quality brand. Love that they are organic as well.
I could not wait for this to arrive!! I made a malted hot chocolate as soon as I picked up my package. That drink instantly took me back to my childhood which was such a pleasant memory. I then made a smoothie with a nice spoonful of the malt in it (along with frozen banana, cocoa powder, non dairy milk - a recipe from growing up) and it tasted exactly like a diner chocolate milkshake. What a great find!
It has a sweet taste, rich golden colour and heavy texture. I use it to make a traditional snack in my home place: you heat the syrup until it becomes more flowy, then use a stick to put it on a soda biscuit. Simple but yummy! High quality single ingredient. Nice taste, was bought orriginally for use in cinnamon raisin bagles, but package size is large so found many other uses. Waffle recipe benefits from this. Composition is VERY sticky, obviosly not recommended for low carb diet, serving size is kinda meaningless for this product type. Wish I used it more frequently.
I use this when I make bagels. It is very sticky and gooey, somewhat like molasses. The trick is to spray your spoon or whatever you're using, first with cooking spray before adding the syrup, then it will slide off easily. I think this is the best or one of the best quality brands, plus it's organic. This barley malt syrup is used for cooking and baking rather than making a malt shake which is something else.
Barley malt syrup was a common treat where I grow up. The one sold locally was a constitute of many other ingredients other than barley malt, much thicker, much cheaper. I recently learned that Chinese medical doctor consider barley malt syrup relatively healthier than other forms of sugar, especially for kids who easily got allergies or go hyper with excessive sugar intake. This is so far the only one barley malt sugar that is not a constitute but purely comes barley malt. I use this as sweetener for sweet treats for my kids. nice taste too.
